Exam Services

Instructors may be teaching students in their courses who need disability-related testing accommodations. The Center for Disability Resources (CDR) assists instructors in administering exams to students through a test proctoring service available at CDR. In order for students to take exams at CDR, instructors and students are requested to follow these procedures:

    • Students requesting accommodations must first register with CDR. After students register with CDR, they are assigned to work with an Access Coordinator who will hold a welcome meeting and together they will develop an accommodation plan as appropriate. Once a plan is in place, CDR will generate an Accommodation Letter that is available to faculty via the Disability Faculty Portal in MySlice.
    • Accommodation Letter –Students are instructed to discuss their accommodations with each of their instructors as every course can differ in terms of learning objectives and types of assessments utilized. If students will need testing accommodations, the instructors and students should discuss whether exams will be administered by CDR and make the appropriate arrangements for this at the beginning of the semester.
    • Students must sign up for exams at CDR at least 48 hours ahead of the scheduled time of the exam. All signups should coincide with the scheduled day/time of the class. If an alternate exam time is necessary due to course conflicts, students will need to contact their professor for approval of the alternate day/time. Once established, the professor can approve the student’s sign-up in their Disability Faculty Portal in MySlice and/or the student can forward email verification of faculty approval to CDR exams. Students will then need to sign up for their exam through CDR’s Disability Resource Portal using the new day/time
    • Instructors have two ways of providing CDR with their exams:
      • Upload to CDR’s Disability Resource Portal – through MySlice
      • In-person drop-off
    • Completed exams will be scanned and uploaded to the Disability Faculty Portal or instructors may choose to pick up their completed exams in person.
      • Given the volume of exams proctored by CDR, during finals, faculty must make arrangements to pick up their completed final exams from CDR or have their TA/designee do so.
    • Instructors must have a statement on their syllabi that provides information on how to request accommodations with CDR. The faculty senate approves the university-wide syllabus statement.
    • Students with disabilities are entitled to the same access as their non-disabled peers. This includes, but is not limited to, opportunities to ask questions during exams. Students accessing accommodations through CDR do not forfeit opportunities that their non-disabled peers have. We ask that faculty kindly provide their own or their TA’s contact information (cell phone or monitored email address) for students to ask questions during their exams at CDR.
